Being a doula is a way of being, not a way of doing
"Doula" comes from the Greek meaning "at the service of...". Doulas have existed since time immemorial, and can be found all over the world. They don't all have the same name, but they all have the same role to play: to be an unconditional support for the woman who is about to give birth. The doula is first and foremost a person of trust, a referent, a helper, a companion, the person on whom parents can rely in case of doubt or questioning. (text by Julie Toutin, doula)
Why a doula ?
A doula is a person who, in addition to medical care*, accompanies a woman or future parents during pregnancy, childbirth and the post-natal period (definition from the Doulas de France website). She provides moral and logistical support in daily life, and is a source of information who can refer you to a professional if necessary.
Women have always been surrounded by other women from the tribe, village and/or family. In our Westernized societies, the family nucleus is increasingly restricted to the parents and the child. Yet the transmission of mothering gestures is crucial, and surrounding the new mother can only be beneficial (rest, warmth, benevolence).
🌟 What does a post-partum doula ? 🌟
As a postpartum doula, I'm dedicated to offer you unfailing support in the days and weeks following your baby's arrival. My role is multi-faceted: I help you adjust to your new life as a parent, guide you in breastfeeding if you wish, listen carefully to your emotional needs and provide practical support with everyday tasks.
🎯 My goal ?
My mission is to create special moments for you and your baby 👶—or even just for yourself! I can care for your little one while you take a shower, rest, or simply recharge. My goal is to give you the time and space to bond with your baby, discover this new chapter at your own pace, and ensure you get the rest 💤 and relaxation you truly deserve.
